This best practice collateral on VMware workload decommissioning permanently. VMware recommends to keep 1-week VMware workload in the ESX Cluster post shutdown. This ensures last resort recovery within vCenter to power-on workload as needed in case there’s still need for the resource. It's important to note that the VMware decom must be followed based VMware KB Article.
This solution to proactively decom ESX workloads on VMware cluster both production and non-production workloads properly to cleanup SAN data resources.

Access Operations / Pre-requisite
- Ensure Access to VMware vCenter with Privilege Administrator RBAC Role
- vCenter URL / IP
Operational Procedures
Step 1 – Login into vCenter Portal
Step 2 – Select the VM Workload > Right-Click and Select Delete from Disk Option (ENSURE WORKLOAD HAS BEEN SHUTDOWN FOR 1-WEEK)
Step 3 – Select the Confirm Delete
Step 4 – Select Done
Step 5 - Ensure to remove Domain Object on AD and DNS Entry using AD Users & Computers

Tech Notes:
Removed ALL VMware ESX Workloads are no longer needed. Ensure there’s fresh service ticket for every request to better tracking on system decom for VMware platform.
